Spare Tire is Gone – Chapter 48.2

Qi Cong’s heart trembled. Closing his eyes, he tilted his head toward Gu Xun’s lips.

Gu Xun’s voice disappeared. He opened his eyes in disbelief, looking at the closed eyes of Qi Cong, eyelashes moist and trembling. His expression seemed to be repressing something. His gaze deepened a little, as he stretched out his hand towards Qi Cong’s waist and opened his lips, ready to deepen the kiss.

Qi Cong suddenly retreated again. He opened his eyes and found that after the wall of his heart collapsed, the emotions that had been repressed could no longer be restrained and poured out ferociously. He squeezed Gu Xun’s hand, his tone deep and firm, like he was promising something. “Wait a little longer, okay? A lot of things…I still have a lot of things to deal with. Gu Xun, you shouldn’t be the only one chasing after me. Just wait for me a little, can you? I’m not teasing you, I just feel…”

Qi COng was feeling really bad about himself right now; he didn’t want to admit it. But he had an inferiority complex and plenty of fear. He owes a lot of people favors, there was bad news stalking him, he had no notable achievements, and was confused about his own life. He wasn’t sure if he could respond well to the expectations of the people around him, and he wasn’t sure if he would fail everyone and waste their help and efforts. He was afraid that he would become just like this, afraid that he would be unable to give Gu Xun a stable relationship.

Of course he can just stay with Gu Xun. His feelings have never been extinguished since they started three years ago. He liked Gu Xun and couldn’t wait to give him a response. Who wouldn’t want to hold on to such a good person?

But what would happen after holding his hand? Due to Gu Xun’s character, if the two of them get together, Gu Xun would certainly take over this whole mess. He would protect Qi Cong and help him carry the burden.

Then he would become a poor person who needed constant support and become so dependent, eventually blood-sucking Gu Xun’s life. If he became a bottomless pit, constantly creating problems in Gu Xun’s life, could their relationship really last?

Life weighed down on Qi Cong and made it impossible for him to raise his head, but at least….

He hoped that when he finally accepted Gu Xun’s feelings he could be in a better situation. He hoped that the relationship between the two would unfold in a healthy state and…he wanted to be with Gu Xun for a long, long time.

He didn’t want Gu Xun to regret it later. He also didn’t want to stand next to Gu Xun when his presence could only represent a blemish, to paint a shadow on Gu Xun’s perfect resume. He knew that his past couldn’t be completely cleansed, but he still wanted to try. For his own sake and for Gu Xun’s sake he wanted to try to become a little better.

“I’ll do it.” He held Gu Xun’s hand harder. “I will do it. When I am done it will be me who will say it. Gu Xun you don’t have to accommodate me and worry about me all the time. You don’t need to be so gentle and careful with me, I did forget three years and encountered some things, but I’m an adult. You can show me your true emotions, I…”

He swallowed the rest of his words. “I also want to take care of you. I want to share my emotions with you.”

He then looked into Gu Xun’s eyes as if he was promising him something. “I will try my best to catch up with the three year gap.”

A shooting star passed by in the boundless distance of the sky.

Gu Xun looked at Qi Cong’s red eyes trying to express a promise, and felt that Qi Cong was big enough to try to seize his own fare, then he suddenly found that… he might be wrong.

He pushed to hard.

Less than a month after their reunion, Qi Cong hasn’t recovered yet from all the huge changes in his life. He had nothing, while at the same time, owed the people closest to him all kinds of favors and money.

Gu Xun reached out and gently touched Qi Cong’s face.

He probably shouldn’t have helped Qi Cong or even if he did, he shouldn’t have let Qi Cong know. He knew full well that Qi Cong was never willing to owe anyone, and once he did owe someone, he wanted to give back tenfold. What was the difference between letting Qi Cong be forced to accept his favors and confessing his love before he was ready?

At least in love, he should give Qi Cong a completely equal space, so that Qi Cong could catch his breath and express his feelings without too many scruples. Instead, he let Qi Cong become like this. All of this because of his eagerness and pressure, trying to “return” and get a reply. He didn’t have time to fill the gaps caused by the emotions and status that brought feelings of inequality into their relationship.

The pressure was already too overwhelming.

Affection, friendship, love…

There were  obviously so many people around, but there wasn’t someone he could freely pour out his emotions.

Gu Xun reached out to take Qi Cong into his arms.

Unlike the previous times, this was a real hug. Chest to chest, their body temperatures exchanged because of their close proximity making it seem like they were able to hear the beating of each other’s hearts.

“Alright.”

Qi Cong heard Gu Xun’s voice, different from his usual gentle and soft tone, low and slightly deep.

“It’s my fault, I clearly said that I would let you take your time to sort it out, but I was in a hurry. What you said…your real emotions, I will let you sort them out. Cong, I’ll wait for you.”

The night breeze was gentle.

Qi Cong’s heart leisurely calmed down. He raised his hand to grab the clothes on Gu Xun’s back and rested his forehead on Gu Xun’s shoulder. “I’m sorry. I’ll try not to let you wait too long either.”

…..

When the meteor shower was at its busiest, Weibo was also buzzing with activity because of four things.

First, the media reported the “kidnapping” that Gu Xun accomplished at the door of the hotel.

Second, the “Legend of Youths” announced they were ending their cooperation with Yanhuang Smart Home Company.

The third piece, the “Legend of Youth” released the first wave of publicity photos.

Fourth, someone posted a video of Qi Cong and Jiang Zhaoyan clashing at the elevator entrance of Dingli Hotel.

All four news posts broke out at almost the same time and then became so popular that they almost became hot searches at the same time.

The hot search about Gu Xun was very popular and its content was #Gu Xun confesses his love for Qi Cong in public#. The quote given by Gu Xun, the “relationship between looking up and being looked up to”  was roughly magnified by the media and hung in the most eye-catching position, stunning a large number of netizens and breaking the hearts of many Gu Xun fans.
