Spare Tire is Gone – Chapter 42

There was a sound of the room card being swiped, then the door handle being twisted, followed by the sound of the door being opened. A tall, lone figure entered the door with light steps before calling out, “Cong?”

There was no response.

Xiao Han’s voice came from outside the door. “I’ve been calling Brother Cong’s phone and there’s been no answer. Did he did anything stupid Mr. Gu-?”

“Shh.” Gu Xun turned around and motioned to Xiao Han to be silent, then he listened carefully to the sounds of the room.

It was quiet, as if no one was there.

He instructed Xiao Han not to come in and then stepped into the room. Looking sideways at the open door of the bathroom he walked past it and glanced at the laptop on the table before looking in the direction of the bed.

The thin young man was lying slightly curled up in a corner of the bed, his phone on the quilt, the hem of his t-shirt rolled up showing a thin waistline, pajama pants loose but still revealing the beautiful lines of his calves. Probably because he was feeling cold, he tucked his feet under the quilt next to him.

The midday sun enveloped him, his soft hair bathed in gold light. The soft features of his face were buried into the quilt, eyelashes laying a fan shaped shadow under his eyes. His fair skin next to the white sheets and pale color of his lips become even more conspicuous.

Gu Xun stopped walking and slowly turned around, looking straight at the sleeping Qi Cong.

“Mr. Gu, how did he–“

“Shh.” Gu Xun again turned his head to Xiao Han at the door and made a gesture for silence. He looked at Qi Cong who was still sleeping soundly on the bed and walked gently to the door. Taking the lunch box from Xiao Han’s hand before holding the door lock with another, he blocked the door with his body. Then he said to Xiao Han in a low voice, “Help me let Manager Zhao know that I borrowed Qi Cong’s spare room card. Don’t worry, he’s just asleep.”

Xiao Han breathed a huge sigh of relief. “It’s good that he is just asleep. I was almost scared to death. In truth, yesterday’s fuss was so bad that Brother Cong probably didn’t sleep all night.”

Gu Xun looked Xiao Han up and down. “I heard Qi Cong call you Xiao Han?”

Xiao Han nodded. “Yes, yes everyone calls me Xiao Han. Mr.Gu you might also -”

“Xiao Han.” Gu Xun interrupted Xiao Han, who couldn’t help raising his voice a little louder and pointed with his head to the inside room, while blocking the door even more tightly, “Thank you for coming to bring food to Cong. I am fine here, work hard, goodbye.”

Xiao Han choked as he looked at Gu Xun, who wore a polite expression that you couldn’t refuse. Then he looked at the tall figure of Gu Xun blocking the door. He didn’t know why, when Gu Xun took the lunch box from him, his mouth fell open and he felt that something was not quite right. He said, “But Brother Zhao asked me to send meals to Cong…  I just happened to run into you halfway here.”

Gu Xun smiled: “You’ve already delivered it. I will talk to Manager Zhao – “

“…” Xiao Han tried to see the situation in the room through the gap between Gu Xun’s body and the door, but he couldn’t see anything. He glanced at Gu Xun’s expression that looked like he was smiling but was actually not too kind and suppressing his unease, walked away. One step ahead and three steps back.

Gu Xun didn’t step back until he saw Xiao Han disappear around the corner of the corridor. Then he turned and entered the room with light steps.

Qi Cong was sound asleep in the same position as before.

Good boy.

Gu Xun gently put the lunch box on the table, took off his hat and combed his fingers through his hair before going around and stepping closer to Qi Cong, and finally bending over.

The tall body blocked the sunlight and dropped a shadow on Qi Cong, who still seemed to be unaware of the change in light and shadow. But then he suddenly frowned, his head moving.

Gu Xun stiffened and straightened up to take a step away.

With the sunlight returned, Qi Cong’s frown loosened, then he turned over and buried his head into the soft quilt. Because of this action, his already rolled up t-shirt rode up even more,  revealing a piece of skin on his lower back.

After confirming that Qi Cong still slept soundly, Gu Xun tried to move forward again. He tried to find an angle that didn’t block the sun as he leaned over Qi Cong.

A few strands of messy hair fell on his forehead and between the eyebrows of Qi Cong because of turning in his sleep. Because his back was now to the sun, without the natural filter of sunlight, a faint layer of dark shadow under Qi Cong’s eyes was clearly revealed.

Gu Xun reached out and moved the hair away from between the eyebrows of Qi Cong, before touching his eyes with his fingertips.

He must not have slept well before.

He looked at the corner of Qi Cong’s eyes.

There was no redness.

Was it because he hadn’t cried, or had the traces of crying already disappeared?

The room was quiet and the sunlight was gentle. If you listened hard enough, you could even hear a little bit of Qi Cong’s light and shallow breathing.

Gu Xun looked at the cell phone next to Qi Cong and reached out to pick it up. Pressing a button to open the lock screen, he entered a series of numbers in the unlock interface without hesitation. The phone unlocked and the Weibo page that Qi Cong didn’t have time to close before going to bed was revealed.

It was the comment section of the Weibo article sent by Haicheng News.

Was it when you saw this that you could finally sleep with ease?

Gu Xun locked the cell phone and looked at Qi Cong, who was still curled up in his sleep. His eyes swept across the lower back of Qi Cong  and reached out to the bulging vertebrae that were particularly obvious because its owner was too thin.

He really was too thin.

The touching fingertips immediately moved away as Gu Xun looked at his sleeping face.

Qi Cong still slept.

After a while, a slender hand moved to the rolled-up t-shirt and gently pulled it down.

He would catch a cold.

The sense of pull brought by the clothes made Qi Cong restless again, so Gu Xun leaned over and reached under Qi Cong’s shoulder with one hand and then behind Qi Cong’s bent legs with another, before gently picking him up.

Qi Cong frowned, his eyelashes trembling and his eyes finally opening.

Gu Xun lowered his eyes to look at Qi Cong, their eyes meeting each other. Then he held him upright, head on the pillow, body straight over the quilt before he kissed Qi Cong on the brow, his voice was filled with a gentle coaxing. “Go back to sleep, it’s all over.”

Qi Cong opened his eyes wide and looked straight at Gu Xun after a few seconds. A moment later he really closed his eyes again, buried himself deeper into the quilt, with his head half buried. A moment later, his breath became stable.

Gu Xun:“…”

He looked down at Qi Cong, who really went back to sleep, in a rare moment of foolishness for himself. Then the corners of his lips hooked up as he reached out to pinch Qi Cong ears, leaning over to feel Qi Cong breath.

“So obedient? Then you can not blame me ……” the gentle magnetic male voice disappeared as lips touched each other.

The half-drawn curtains above the bed diluted the sunlight and protected the peaceful sleep of the lovers.

……

Click.

The sound of the door closing was magnified in his ears. The tranquil breath around his body also slowly faded away. Qi Cong opened his eyes, sat up stunned before raising his hand to touch his lips. Then he withdrew his hand in shock.

Why did he dream about that? The dream was so real –

When he saw a lunch box on the table that wasn’t there before he went to bed, he froze and his brain exploded. He quickly got up and walked over, opening the lunch box and looking at its contents.

The lunchbox was insulated, so there was no way to feel how long it had been sitting there.

He turned back to the bed to find his phone, but even after lifting the quilt and going around in circles, he couldn’t see it. He was puzzled and wanted to get down and look under the bed, but when his head turned, he saw that his phone was lying peacefully on the nightstand.

Nightstand?

Qi Cong frowned, confused.

Didn’t he fall asleep with his phone?

A dream that seemed to be too real flashed through his mind. He pursed his lips and took two or three steps to the bedside table to pick up his phone and then unlocked it to check the time.

It was almost two o’clock in the afternoon, long after Xiao Han usually delivered lunch. He dialed Xiao Han’s phone number.

The phone was quickly answered and Xiao Han’s voice came out, “Brother Cong, are you awake?”

“Yes…”Qi Cong found his voice a little hoarse after he opened his mouth so he quickly coughed and asked, “Did you bring me my meal? When did you deliver it?”

After asking and finding that his tone was too eager, he added, “Sorry, I fell asleep and didn’t hear you knock, how did you…get in?”

“I asked Manager Zhao to get a spare room card. It’s okay, it’s okay, Brother Cong, just take a good rest.”

The meal was sent by Xiao Han.

Qi Cong remembered his far too real dream and could even smell the familiar faint cold fir scent still around. Hesitating, he still decided to ask, “So besides you, has anyone else come to my room? Also my phone… did you help me put it on the nightstand?”

“Ah? Cell phone? Ah! Yes, it’s me. Well, Brother Cong, I have a job here. I have to hang up first. Remember to eat. “

The phone hung up.

Qi Cong slowly put down his phone.

So it was really just a dream.

So it was a dream.

He looked down and opened WeChat.

Gu Xun just sent a message.

Gu Xun: Today there is another night scene.

There was also a cat emoji.

Since Gu Xun was filming, it was impossible for him to come to see Qi Cong.

Qi Cong raised his hand and touched his lips, feeling a little lost. After being lost for a while, he suddenly woke up and moved his fingers away. Once he recalled what he’d just thought, he felt very embarrassed.

How could he have such a dream? Because of this dream he….

He looked at the message sent by Gu Xun, and felt that he had secretly taken advantage of the other party. Suddenly, he didn’t know how to face Gu Xun anymore, so he simply put down his mobile phone and went to the bathroom to wash up. Then he sat up in front of the lunch box.

Eat, just eat, don’t think about it.

After the meal Qi Cong opened Weibo.

By then, Tian Wu had already posted her video and the topic of #Jiang Zhaoyan unloading#, #Jiang Zhaoyan phoenix man# were already trending.

He was busy making up for the melon seeds he missed while falling asleep, and when he saw previous Sanmu employees come out to speak for him, he pinched the palm of his hand slightly.

The working atmosphere of Sanmu had always been very good, so there were many  veteran employees who worked in Sanmu for more than ten or twenty years. He also often went to Sanmu with Qi Yin and got to know a lot of old Sanmu employees personally. Those uncles and aunts were like relatives to him.

But he cost them their jobs.

His cell phone suddenly vibrated. It was Zhao Zhenxun calling him. Qi Cong regained his mind, reined in his mood and connected the call. “Brother Zhao.”

“Mm-hmm. Have you seen Weibo? “

“I just went to take a look.”

“Then prepare yourself mentally; there will be another round of a public opinion war. The company’s reputation has taken a sharp turn for the worse and Jiang Zhaoyan probably won’t allow Yanhuang’s reputation to continue to deteriorate so drastically. If he decides to take on the public relations road, he will probably start by attacking you. There is no doubt about your contributions to Yanhuang, so the only thing he can attack is your ‘entanglement’ with him. He should describe you as a crazy person who pestered him and he couldn’t get rid of you no matter how much he refused. As for our side, we will use your memory loss and illness. This next battle will have the public analyzing and discussing every bit of your privacy that was disclosed. Qi Cong, I still suggest that you don’t look at Weibo.”

The heart that had just become steady for a short time trembled again. He remembered the gentle and intimate Gu Xun in his dream and asked, “When will this public opinion war break out? How long will it last?”

“It depends on when Jiang Zhaoyan’s side will start. Qi Cong I can only promise you that as soon as Jiang Zhaoyan uses up all his  means, I will solve all of this as quickly as possible.”

“I understand.” Qi Cong bowed his head, “Thank you, Brother Zhao.”

After ending the phone call with Zhao Zhenxun, Qi Cong went back to Weibo to look at it.

Most netizens who followed the incident were cursing Jiang Zhaoyan. Many people said that they would boycott Yanhuang all their life and there was even a wave of people going after Yanghuang’s online flagship stores to leave bad reviews and give low scores to the products they have already bought.

The apology statement and handling announcement issued by official Yanhuang Company Weibo was also scolded by netizens again, and even the Amber Design Company was implicated and condemned by netizens.

The Weibo accounts of Jiang Tian and several other relatives of the Jiang family were found, and more smelly remarks of the Jiang relatives were dug up. Another person dug up Jiang Tian’s phone number while countless people sent cursing text messages to Jiang Tian.

It seemed to be a triumphant orgy, but then again it didn’t seem to be.

Qi Cong couldn’t help but think of something.

After Jiang Zhaoyan attacked him for being a crazy person, how many people would come to condemn and attack him like this?

Also, Gu Xun’s fans, Shen Jia’s fans, and countless passersby…. What would they think of a troublesome character like him? Will everyone think that he was not worthy… not worthy….

He stopped his train of thought and picked up his mobile phone to look back at his WeChat messages with Gu Xun. Then he repeatedly zoomed in and out of the Gu Xun avatar. After going through all his messages one more time, he clicked on the Gu Xun circle of friends.

After adding Gu Xun as a friend for such a long time, he never clicked into Gu Xun’s circle of friends. At first, he was afraid, then he was no longer afraid but because Gu Xun was so close to him… he never looked at Gu Xun’s circle of friends and now… He became scared again.

Apart from him, what will Gu Xun’s “moments” look like? Are all the people who get along with Gu Xun very good people, unlike him?

The page refreshed, and a familiar group photo appeared.

Qi Cong froze.

The backdrop of Gu Xun’s circle of friends was actually a photo of him and Gu Xun, the one they took in Shen Jia’s lounge, with Gu Xun hugging his shoulders.

His trembling heart seemed to have been thrown into a basin of warm water.

He sat up upright, held his phone in both hands and glanced at the photo again. He even exited and re-entered several times to completely confirm that it wasn’t an illusion, and that the background wall of Gu Xun’s circle of friends was really a picture of Gu Xun and him.

He had mixed feelings about it.

What was Gu Xun thinking of using this photo in such a private place? With Gu Xun’s identity and status, how many people will observe him and see this picture?

No, maybe it was just a trumpet that Gu Xun used to contact him, maybe–.

His finger moved as Gu Xun’s latest friend circle was revealed.

Gu Xun: The lost baby is back, how should I celebrate?

Under this moment, Zhao Zhenxun and Shen Jia replied with an ellipsis and a sentence “Have you lost your pet?” But Gu Xun replied to them respectively, with a smile to Zhao Zhenxun and a “not a pet” to Shen Jia.

With even Zhao Zhenxun added as a friend, this definitely was not a private secondary account.

So their photo…

Qi Cong clenched his hand on the mobile phone and then suddenly relaxed. Looking one last time at the photo, he exited Gu Xun circle of friends and put down his phone to open his computer.

No he shouldn’t look at it.

It will all pass.

Zhao Zhenxun’s advice was right, he shouldn’t look at Weibo too much. His love biography of an affectionate character has not yet been written, while his new song still needed to be practiced. The new update of “Chivalrous Bones” was also not finished, so he had many things to do and didn’t have time to pay attention to online grudges.

The computer screen lit up and the documents that weren’t closed before going to bed were revealed.

Qi Cong put his fingers on the keyboard but didn’t type anything for a long time before writing the first word. He suddenly picked up the phone at his side and re-read the messages Gu Xun had sent him and then bowed his head and typed back.

Qi Cong: Alright

Qi Cong: Let’s go to see the meteor shower.

Qi Cong: Gu Xun, I will try very hard.

Qi Cong: Just wait for me

After sending these messages he tossed his phone to the side and he repositioned his hands on the keyboard. His eyes swept over his early morning writing before his fingers started moving and finally started writing smoothly.

……

At 7:00 p.m., the time when Weibo was gradually becoming more lively, a story said to be from a certain entertainment insider suddenly hit the top of the trending list.

Entertainment New Information V: #Yanhuang incident once again reversed# After receiving the recent news I can only see that the water in the entertainment circle is really deep, so everyone should be careful when eating melons in the future to not accidentally shoot someone. Also you should be careful when you stand in line. Anyway, I am still quite concerned about the small news that someone broke out about Qi Cong owing credit card debts and not caring about his parents. I think a person who is not filial to his parents should not be able to truly die of love… I just hope that Shen Jia will not get cheated by him.

This Weibo post was followed by several typed chat notes, which seemed to be employees of some water army studio.

A: For how long should we take control of it?

B: Control until everyone is only focused on Jiang Zhaoyan and forget about Qi Cong’s credit card debts, ignoring his parents and repeatedly forcing Jiang Zhaoyan to do these odd things until… we completely destroy Jiang Zhaoyan, so that he never dared to rise again and Qi Cong becomes a completely innocent victim. Then we can call it a day.

A: That’s ruthless. It must have cost a lot of money.

B: Several public relations and marketing companies are already doing it. They invested a lot of capital. It seems that this former rich second generation is determined to enter the entertainment industry to make money.

A: Tsk tsk tsk, doesn’t he like Jiang Zhaoyan? Then why does he treat Jiang Zhaoyan like this? I am afraid it’s over for Yanhuang.

B: Most likely. I heard that the former rich second generation has decided to sign with Manju and just like Shen Jia is under Zhao Zhenxun. What does it mean to be under Zhao Zhenxun? Jiang Zhaoyan, an outsider to the circle, can only die. Lighting an incense for him in advance.

The comments under this Weibo rose quickly. At first the wind was skeptical about whether the blogger was publishing some false material to blacken the true victim but after some more small materials came out, the wind gradually changed.

Bowl of Chicken Soup: Uh I was so afraid to say the truth before. I am a nurse in a hospital in Haicheng. Qi Yin was sick for a long time after she went bankrupt, and lived in the hospital where I worked. Anyway, she was hospitalized for two months, and I didn’t see her son visit her even once. I only saw her husband who was busy taking care of her. She was a bit plump when she entered the hospital, but after she was discharged, she was so thin that she lost all her previous shape, which was quite miserable.

Fruit Cans: My family and the Qi Family used to have some business dealings. As far as I know, Qi Yin ran out of money after Sanmu went bankrupt and fell ill. After she was discharged from the hospital, she lived in a very dilapidated community in the Wenhua District in Haicheng. There aren’t many residents there and the house she lived in didn’t even have an air conditioner, so she was forced to endure the hot summer. Meanwhile Qi Cong himself was quite happy living in an apartment in the center of the city, without even looking at his parents.

Rushing Toward the Supermarket: The wind of Weibo scared me too much to speak before. But anyway everyone should be reasonable. As far as I know, it wasn’t like Jiang Zhaoyan hung around Qi Cong to use him as a spare tire, but it was Qi Cong’s own initiative. Every time Jiang Zhaoyan refused him, he would try to commit suicide. He also threatened Jiang Zhaoyan with taking Sanmu resources back. Jiang Zhaoyan is actually quite miserable. He was stuck with Qi Cong and unable to get rid of him. Even though Qi Cong inserted his own foot in, the company was founded with the capital of Qi Yin, who was eager to be loved by her own son. Now that he was finally able to get rid of him a little, as a result he got stuck again… miserable, anyway, the poor have no human rights.

Lele is Not Happy Today: Do you guys remember when Qi Cong was mistaken by the paparazzi as Shen Jia’s mysterious girlfriend in that report? The neighborhood where they parked was near a bank. I went there that day to do business and ran into both of them so I heard a little of their conversation. Qi Cong was going around canceling all his credit cards. He also owed a lot of money to banks and it was Shen Jia who paid it back for him. Shen Jia is really stupid and sweet to be deceived and used so thoroughly.

…….

The wind changed completely after more old news was dug up.

This punks! They never stop! Well, at least when Qi Cong’s career starts this matter will be already resolved. No more troublesome ‘scandals’.
